About the founder
David Verhage
David Verhage is a multidisciplinary technology entrepreneur whose work sits at the intersection of software, infrastructure, design and education.
He began building an independent web practice in 2005, developing digital products and advising organisations at a time when the web was rapidly moving from static pages to connected, data-driven services. That early work demanded more than programming: it involved listening to clients, interpreting audiences, shaping visual systems, managing servers and databases, and supporting the people who ultimately had to use what was built.
Across subsequent roles in frontend and full-stack development, David worked with technologies including PHP, JavaScript, Laravel, Node.js, WordPress and modern interface frameworks. As technical director of an e-health venture, he helped shape a platform for digital medical services. His broader experience—from support and systems work to data management and IoT prototyping—has given him an unusually complete view of technology: not merely as code, but as an environment of people, information and responsibility.
Education is a consistent part of that perspective. As an IT teacher at Segbroek College, he taught computing concepts and web technologies across secondary-school levels. The classroom refined a quality that also defines his advisory work: the ability to make difficult material understandable without making it simplistic. He continues that tradition through coaching and freelance teaching in programming, mathematics, security and digital design.
David’s entrepreneurial approach is practical and socially minded. He values intellectual curiosity, clear communication and the confidence to question fashionable solutions. Artisan Noir is the expression of that approach: a small, independent practice where technical craft is matched by judgement, and where every engagement should leave a client or learner more capable than before.
